COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina officials say a new specialty license plate for family members of soldiers killed in combat is now available.
The Department of Motor Vehicles on Friday announced the availability of its Gold Star Family license plate. Motorists must provide military documentation of their family member’s death to get the plate.
DMV director Marcia Adams says the plates serve as a memorial for slain service men and women. She says several other states offer similar plates.
Motorists who qualify for the plates must pay $30 every two years along with the regular registration fee.

I am glad to see the plates finally available in SC, but I think the state should waive the 30 dollar fees, like they do for totally disabled veterans, these families have paid the ultimate price to this nation, waive the fees.
