National Salute to Veterans week
(2/8/09) By Jeniffer Berry - Americans are encouraged to honor some other pretty special people this week... their local veterans.
It is National Salute to Veterans week.
Local VA medical centers, clinics and nursing homes are all holding special events so that the community can get out to visit those who have served in the armed forces.
If you can't make it...send something, instead.
Valentines Day is less than a week away.
Cards are already pouring in at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.
They receive thousands of letters during this time of year. They said the veterans cherish these notes for months.
“To have our veterans be remembered by so many people from across the nation. To let them know that they are not forgotten, that they are loved. I mean what better holiday to do that than Valentines Day,” said Wilma Luther with the Nebraska Veterans Home.

There is a great video at the website you should watch, I realize this is about Nebraska, but this is a nationwide program and all veterans hospitals and nursing homes participate in this. Take a few minutes and make some old vets happy.
